Promoting sustainability is already a core part of our business.

Film photography in general is unfortunately not the most sustainable practice - and by bringing a new product into the market we have been dedicated to looking at ways that we can either offset or minimise our impact.

So, what’s it made from?

Whilst not all elements of this camera are recyclable, the camera body housing is made from ABS plastic (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) - which is a thermostatic plastic that can easily be melted and re-molded into a solid again.

Um, OK cool, but what does that actually mean?

Well, it basically means that ABS is an ideal plastic for recycling! In fact, for that very reason, it’s often reused for manufacturing things like computer parts, limitless household objects and even children’s toys.

To top it off, in comparison to other commonly used plastics ABS is a food-grade plastic that is considered to be safe for humans, as it has no known toxins - what a relief! 😅

Good news! ALL of our packaging is either recyclable and / or suitable for home composting - and that includes our replaceable custom stickers too! 🙌

We’re super excited to have joined the reforestation program run by Tree-Nation!

Tree-Nation is a non-profit organisation currently running 100 reforestation and conservation projects all over the globe.

Why this matters:

Deforestation is responsible for about 17% of climate change emissions - which is why planting trees has been proven to be one the most efficient solutions to combat this.

What we’re doing:

We have pledged to:

• Plant 1 tree for every Snap camera manufactured

• In addition to this, we will also donate a proportion of every sale made via our website towards supporting global reforestation projects.

Just like the seeds we plant, we know that big things often have small beginnings - and so, even as a small company, we accept our responsibility to work towards offsetting our emissions and fighting climate change. As we grow, the amount of trees we plant will too! 🌱

Fun fact: before we created the Snap LF-35M camera, we spent the last 15 years working as photographers / creatives, whilst developing our skills in restoring and refurbishing beautiful retro cameras on the side.

In fact, you may have come here from our Depop or Etsy stores where, since March 2020, we have now rescued nearly 1000 cameras from landfill and restored them to be enjoyed by film photography enthusiasts all over the world. So, you could say we know our way around a camera or two!

Which is why we know that all good things must eventually come to an end - even your grandad’s seemingly indestructible Pentax K1000 will eventually make it’s way to analogue heaven! 😇

Similarly, Snap LF-35M does have an inevitable life span and whilst it won’t last forever (because, well, nothing does!) It’s a far more sustainable alternative to wasteful single use cameras.

So, what happens when the Snap can no longer Snap for you? Well, if you send it back to us, we will ensure that it’s safely dismantled and recycled at a specialist facility. In addition to this, we’ll gift you with a 10% voucher to use across our store as a thank you for thinking sustainably - and who knows, it might even go on to be another Snap camera in its next lifetime! 🎈
